Whither Canda’s anti-terrorist policy by Ananda Wijesinghe

Prime Minister Paul Martin’s recent cry to ‘do something to save the people of Darfur from genocide’, is shedding Crocodile Tears on people affected by Terrorism.

In a way, the US is involved virtually on the ideal, but Canada clearly pays not only lip-service to it, but also direct/indirect support to terrorists.

It is high time, Canada stood by her own Anti-Terrorism Act - C36, which has been blatantly violated time and again by the state as well as by the so-called-judiciary on individual cases of fund-raising and even acts of violence.

Details would be ‘carrying coal to Newcastle’.

Saturday’s (Sept.25) "Pongu Thamil" - terrorists’ fund-raising event in Toronto is a pointer.

Purpetrators who organized the event for "Ransom-Collecting for Pirabhakaran’s Terrorism" enjoyed accellerated freedom for the past two decades and made Canada the topmost supporter of Terrorism woeing the South Asian Island State - Sri Lanka, where Terrorist outfit, Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) strives to carve out a separate Tamil State, by the force of ruthless terrorism.

Over two million Sri Lankan Tamils, most of whom are in the GTA, fled the country for dear life, to escape from the atrocities committed by this murderous Terrorist group.

Yet, they are continuously being threatened, intimidated and forced to pay "ransom" to several LTTE front-line organizations operating in the Canadian soil. It is no secret that such funds to the tune of one million Dollars monthly, is being made available to the LTTE and shiploads of military hardware procured.

It is a pity that all requests to disallow LTTE - terrorists’ fund-raising event in Toronto,

by various organizations - not excluding those confronted with the relentless intimidation and duress by the terrorist frontliners, fell on deaf ears and the culprits had their day, as freely as ever in Canada.

Whither Canada’s prestigeous foreign policy...?
