India renews ban on LTTE

India has renewed its ban on the LTTE and several other terrorist organizations. In all, 32 groups remain proscribed across India.

A gazette notification by the Ministry of Law and Justice said the action was a sequel to an amendment to the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act of 1967 through an ordinance.

"Any person, who commits an offence beyond India, which is punishable under this Act, shall be dealt according to the provisions of this Act in the same manner as if such act has been committed in India," the notification said. (Colombopage)
