A quote from a twelfth century inscription attributed to a Chola prince who arrived in Sri Lanka,

“It is interesting at this point to quote from a twelfth century inscription attributed to a Chola prince who arrived in Sri Lanka.

”Hail Prosperity in the year Sanbhu Puspa(i.e. One Thousand One Hundred and Forty Five) of the Saka Era ,when the Sun was in the mansion of Aries , Hasta being the constellation (in conjugation with the moon) and the point of the ecliptic at the horizon (lagna) being Aries , the illustrious Condagama deva having arrived in the unconquerable Lanka . The forehead ornament of earth to the Lord Siva at Gokarnna (Trincomalee)”.

This shows the once common belief among the people of the South Indian kingdoms that despite constant invasion of Sri Lanka Could not be conquered. The truth of this only time will tell”.
