Tigers hand over 600 SLA bodies [TamilNet, September 30, 1998 07:16 GMT]

The Liberation Tigers handed over the bodies of six hundred soldiers killed when they overran the SLA's Kilinochchi base complex on Monday to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Mallavi, 8 km. west of Mankulam, this morning at 10.30 a.m. said the ICRC's media relations officer Harasha Gunawardana.

The ICRC delegation are expected to bring the bodies to Vavuniya this evening and hand them over to the SLA brigade headquarters in the town.

Meanwhile independent reports indicated that more than thousand SLA soldiers may have been killed in the fighting. Unconfirmed reports said that the figures might be even higher.

Sources said the Liberation Tigers are yet to gather all the bodies of the soldiers as they are strewn over more than fifteen kilometers of bunkers and shrub jungle.
