LTTE meets their ‘Waterloo’ by Ibrahim (Puttalam)

Gurunagar Jaffna was the "cradle" for the LTTE when they started the movement. A few days ago the LTTE tried their own medicine with the Gurunagar fishermen who taught them a lesson how to behave.

Recently these fishermen while fishing in the lagoon off Poonakari were shot at by the LTTE. The boat got burnt and a fisherman was seriously injured and was hijacked by the LTTE. This incident provoked the other fishermen and they organized a "Hartal" and forced the Jaffna LTTE office to be closed. The LTTE high-ups who came to pacify the Gurunagar fishermen were thrashed and turned away. Through fear of the people, the LTTE big men had to meet the Gurunagar fishermen in the "Vanni" for a compromise. Hats off to these brave men. If at all the Jaffna people rise against the high handed acts of the LTTE like the Gurunagar people, the LTTE will end their undemocratic acts or end their days in the peninsula.
