Four Tigers killed in boat attack [Feb 22 2001 11:11 IST ]

COLOMBO, Feb 22 (AFP) - Sri Lankan police commandos Thursday attacked a boat carrying Tamil Tiger guerrillas, killing at least four, defence officials here said

.The Special Task Force (STF) commandos sank the rebel boat at Kanjikudichchiaru in the eastern province, officials said, adding that there were no casualties among the STF troops.

The attack came a day after the navy attacked a convoy of rebel boats off the island's northern coast and killed at least 10 rebels.

The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) are leading a drawn out campaign for independence in the island's northeast. More than 60,000 people have been killed in fighting in the past two decades.
