National Homeguards disrupt a Terror movement- Thambalagamuwa

Members of the Civil Defence Force formerly known as the National Home guard confronted with a large group of LTTE terrorists at Jayapura in Thambalagamuwa early this morning (01).

According to the defense sources, the battle has erupted around 3.30a.m. The Home guards manning the 37th Duty post detected the terror movement and intercepted it at a location in between 170 and 180 mile posts on the Colombo -Trincomalee main road. The terrorists have fled the area leaving behind much of their belongings.

During the subsequent search, the troops have found one T-56 machine gun, eight Hand grenades, one Micro Pistol, one Global Positioning System (GPS), one laptop computer, and number of sacks containing rice, dhal and other food items.

Home guards suffered no casualties in the incident. Police investigations are in progress.
