Five Karuna loyalists killed

Five Karuna loyalists have been shot dead by the LTTE in two separate incidents in the last 24 hours in the Batticaloa district, reports from the area said.

In the first incident at Kulaththu Madhu in Vakaneri, Tamil guerrillas ambushed a group of Karuna supporters late on Friday night killing three Karuna loyalists. In the second incident at Omadiyamadu, 24 kilometres west of Vakarai, two other Karuna loyalists were killed in an ambush yesterday morning.

They were in their house at the time of the attack. In a separate incident Karuna's group members shot and injured a businessman identified as Poobalapillai Sivapragasam, (47) in Vakaneri. His son was an LTTE member.
