Heavy fighting reported in the frontlines of the Northern Province theatres of war yesterday, where a total of 32 LTTE cadres were killed. The Sri Lanka Army has lost 5 soldiers. Fighting erupted in South Adampan located in Mannar from 11 AM to 5.30 PM on Tuesday.
Radio monitoring of LTTE transmission has revealed that 22 LTTE cadres were killed and 30 others injured in this battle. In addition, three army soldiers were killed and seven others injured. The injured have been admitted to Mannar and Anuradhapura hospitals.
In another fighting, a group of soldiers crossed over the front lines in the Muhamalai, Jaffna peninsula north of LTTE held territory on Tuesday morning, in an attack that destroyed a bunker and killed 6 Tamil Tigers.
Troops in the area launched an attack against a second bunker Tuesday afternoon, killing at least four LTTE cadres the military said. In this battle 2 Sri Lankan Army soldiers were killed.
In the meantime, LTTE news release reveled according to LTTE military spokesman Irasiah Ilanthirayan at least 20 Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers were killed and more than 75 wounded when Liberation Tigers repulsed a two-pronged ground movement Tuesday in Mannnar
He further added that after heavy fighting that lasted from 12:30 p.m. till 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, the Sri Lanka Army began retreating in two fronts in Adampan and Paalaikkuzhi. At 6:00 p.m. the SLA was pushed back to its original Forward Defence Line (FDL) position.
He also said that Tigers have seized Rocket Propelled Grenade Launchers, assault rifles and explosives, he said. Three fighters of the LTTE were killed in action.
The conflicting version of the LTTE military spokesman Irasiah Ilanthirayan cannot be verified as he was not available for comments.
