Forces recover arms and ammo during search operations

In Batticaloa an LTTE cadre who was arrested by the Police Special Task Force committed suicide by swallowing a cyanide pill. This incident happened as the man was showing the security forces personnel the location of a haul of weapons.

The STF however managed to recover a T-56 assault rifle, 220 no’s T-56 ammunition, a hand grenade and 707 identification badges from the scene.

Meanwhile in Moneragala police recovered a claymore mine, a remote controller and T-56 ammunition hidden in a rock cave near Gelone Kanda yesterday.

The items were recovered on a tip off and is believed to have been hidden by the LTTE members, Media Centre for National Security reported.
