Kulam, Chief of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam in Switzerland has been arrested by the Police on 28 February in connection with the attempt to abduct a senior journalist H.L.D. Mahindapala, reports iIlakku online Tamil news daily from Switzerland, in its 01 March 2006 issue.
Ilakku published the news item under the heading "Praba group Tigers attempt to abduct senior media person Mahindapala."

News from Geneva reveals that an attempt to abduct a popular journalist and the former Editor of Observer H.L.D. Mahindapala in Geneva by the leading intelligence group person belonging to the Praba Group in Switzerland has failed.
It is learnt that the Sri Lankans in Geneva apprehended Kutty and Sudha, both from the Praba group, who were involved in the planned abduction and handed them over to the police.
It is now revealed according to the report to the police, while Mahindapala participated in the demonstration against Tigers held on last 23 in Geneva, Praba group Tigers planned to spray tear gas to abduct him and while Kulam, Kutty and Sudha were waiting in Blue Color car, Sri Lankans who were there went to apprehend them, but Kulam fled with the tear gas canisters and weapons.
This time, during the investigation, Kutty and Sudha, the two Praba group Tigers confessed to the Police that they came there to abduct Mahindapala. It is noted that subsequent to their statement Kulam has been arrested yesterday by the Police.
