During Saturday’s meeting, the security forces rejected an LTTE request to set up a safe-passage across the Minneriya-Batticaloa road (A11) to facilitate what was termed the night movement of armed cadres in uniform. The forces delegation pointed out that there was no need for such a passage as there was provision in the Cease-Fire Agreement to facilitate overland movements within the eastern province.
The security forces also objected to night movement as it may lead to confrontations.
Meanwhile police commandos deployed outside their detachment at Sagama on Saturday night recovered a Hero Honda motor cycle, one communication set and a pistol.
STF headquarters said two persons fled leaving the motor cycle, the communication set and the pistol when commandos challenged them about 500 meters away from Sagama detachment.
