TNA MP criticizes police inability to arrest Iniyabarathi

Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarian, Chandranehru Chandrakanth says he was threatened by a top Karuna official in the presence of police, the BBC Sandeshaya reported. The incident happened in Thirukkovil on Monday when Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarian Chandranehru Chandrakanth visited the area with Urban Development Board officers. Speaking to BBC Sandeshaya Mr. Chandrakanth criticized the way police handled the incident, after members of the Karuna faction threatened him. "If the police are unable to take action to protect a parliamentarian, what sort of protection can they then give to the general public” he questioned.

According to the MP, police officers from both Kalmunai and Akkaraipattu accompanied him but did not take measures to arrest Iniyabharathi, a 'commandant' of the Karuna group.

“The DIG instructed his officers to take me out of the area, so they put me in an ambulance and brought me to Colombo” said the MP.
