The body of a Sri Lanka Army (SLA) Deep Penetration Unit (DPU) soldier was handed over to the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) in Kilinochchi on Monday.
The military in a statement acknowledged the handover, but insisted that the soldier was 'missing' from its front-lines in Mannar and was not a member of the DPU.
As reported by us, on Sunday a DPU team was ambushed by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), in the village of Periya Thampaanai, in Vavuniya North.
One LTTE cadres and two members of the Tamil Eelam Auxiliary Force also died during the confrontation.
